Transesophageal color flow imaging

Abstract

TEE provides an alternative imaging window for the cardiac structures and the descending thoracic aorta. Because of the close proximity, its image resolution is superior to TTE. Transesophageal color flow imaging displays normal and abnormal cardiovascular flow patterns that otherwise are not easily detected by a transthoracic approach. Therefore, comprehensive TEE complements conventional TTE and its color flow imaging and is especially useful for the evaluation of the severity of mitral regurgitation, mitral prosthetic malfunction, aortic dissection, and atrial septal defect.
