Abstract
Although it is not listed in the 1988 IHS classification (IHS 88), chronic daily headache (CDH) is a common problem in headache centers. This study was conducted on patients attending the Cerrahpasa Headache Clinic with the diagnosis of CDH. After appropriate clinical and laboratory examinations, patients were started on sodium valproate (VA), the effectiveness of therapy was assessed by pretreatment and posttreatment as an open, prospective clinical trial. Sodium valproate seems to be an effective drug in the treatment of CDH. 37.7% of the patients had a side effect, in only 7 (10%) of the patients, treatment had to be discontinued due to side effects.
