N2 - Migraine affects 18% of women and 6% of men each year in the United States. Migraine has a great impact on the quality of life and personal well-being of migraineurs, which can lead to excessive healthcare expenditures and lost productivity. Migraine is often misdiagnosed and undertreated. Use of diagnostic testing and evaluation can lead to appropriate treatment for the patient. Migraineurs often have coexisting neurological, psychiatric, or medical disorders that need to be taken into account before treatment can be initiated. Non-pharmacologic, acute, and preventive treatments are described, along with a 10-point checklist for diagnosis and treatment of migraine.
