Abstract

This chapter begins with an overview of some seminal issues in the area of lung transplantation. The discussion focuses on graft injury and the role of ischemia-reperfusion. The mechanisms underlying ischemia-reperfusion injury and strategies aimed at ameliorating graft injury are also discussed. Specific issues related to pulmonary vascular and right heart dysfunction in the setting of lung transplantation are emphasized.
