Abstract

A description is given of the design considerations and development of a workstation based on an IBM PC/AT for the analysis of three-dimensional and four-dimensional medical image data. Included are facilities for the computation and display of orthogonal sections, interactively determined oblique sections of a volume, projection images of volumes from any viewpoint, shaded surfaces of objects of interest, and stereoscopic viewing of projection images. Capabilities for statistical analyses and interactive editing of multidimensional images are provided. In addition, an algorithm for automated definition of objects was implemented, as was the application of fractal measurements for feature extraction.
