Abstract

A software module has been created in the biomedical image analysis and display package ANALYZE which enables experimentation with 2-D and 3-D image compression based on wavelet transforms. In particular, this module allows the user to interactively determine the desired amount of compression (by viewing the results) and to interactively define specific subregions of the image that are to be preserved with full fidelity during the compression (again, viewing the results). Examples of the tool's operation and results on a variety of medical images are presented.
