Abstract
Two BPH resistant amphiploids, E13 and E24 (2n=48), were selected from pollen-derived regenerants (H1) of Oryza sativa x O. eichingeri F1 hybrid, and their genetic behavior was investigated. They were characterized by shorter plant height, decreased spikelets per panicle, longer panicle and anther, and larger spikelets, in comparison with the original F1 hybrid. They were also self fertile, although somewhat low, with seed set ranging from 2.72% to 3.55% in H1 and from 4.29% to 4.72% in H2. The meiotic analysis further revealed the chromosome configuration at MI of E13 and E24, being 0.69 I +23.54 II +0.06 IV and 0.59 I +23.36 II +0.14 IV, respectively. The invariable chromosome numbers (2n=48) and the similar morphological traits in H2 and H3 generations led to the conclusion that these two amphiploids had a relatively high genetic stability.
