To the Editor: In the article on strategies for the eradication of poliomyelitis (Dec. 19 issue),* Wright et al. failed to mention Rotary International, a crucial participant in the program of eradication. Since 1985, Rotary has contributed more than $38 million toward the effort to eradicate polio in Latin America. Encouraged by the dramatic progress in Latin America, member nations of the World Health Organization (WHO) resolved in 1988 to eradicate polio worldwide by the year 2000. In response, Rotary International established the PolioPlus program. The Rotary Foundation coordinates the program, which is implemented by Rotarians in targeted countries. To.
