Abstract
The art and science of medicine are called into action at a high level when one evaluates and treats the impaired hand of a skilled musician. A surgeon who is conscientious and understanding of the patient and the patient's needs and who is capable of assessing correctly the anatomic and physiologic pathology is most likely to make the proper decision in advising for or against a surgical component of the overall treatment plan.
