To the Editor: The documentation by Gharib et al. (July 9 issue)* of the absence of change in thyroid nodules treated with levothyroxine over a six-month period comes as no surprise. It has been my distinct impression that in approximately 20 to 25 percent of patients, cold thyroid nodules suppressed with levothyroxine will show some shrinkage, but usually this is not apparent for one to two years and, in general, no change can be discerned at six months.
