Abstract
Properly programming pacemakers and defibrillators siginificantly affects their function and the patient's health. Proper programming can add years to device longevity, prevent symptoms, lower the risk of atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and death. This chapter systematically reviews pacemaker, defibrillator, and resynchronization device programming. Key programmable parameters are reviewed, and patient-based approaches to optimize clinical outcomes summarized.
