Abstract

The migratory capabilities of osteoblasts from both osteoblast cultures and bone chips on poly(α-hydroxy esters) films are studied to assess the effects of polymer composition, cell seeding density, and culture conditions on the rate and characteristics of migration. Based on results, stained cultures and confocal micrographs reveal that osteoblasts initially migrate as a monolayer front and subsequently proliferate and pile up to form multiple cell layers.
