Abstract

Achieving academic success is less a matter of luck or innate ability than it is about hard work-most importantly, a focused determination to set goals and achieve them. Negotiating for an environment where that can be achieved is best done in an institution that has a track record of developing successful investigators. Such places are often led by a Division Chief who shares a vision for academic success and are filled with investigators who understand and accept the sacrifices needed and the rewards of the path they have chosen.
