Abstract

Large natural/spontaneous shunts on splenoportovenography were demonstrated in 10 of 93 patients with non‐cirrhotic portal fibrosis. There was significantly less bleeding in patients with spontaneous shunt than in those having no shunt. Large oesophageal varices (grade III‐IV) were seen more frequently in patients without spontaneous shunt.
