Left Atrial Reservoir Strain: A Savior to Diastolic Function Assessment in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?

Abstract

In the current issue, Lee et al1 present data on the use of left atrial reservoir strain (LARS) in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction and prediction of clinical outcomes.1 HCM is infamous for the unreliability of the traditional echocardiographic parameters in assessing LV diastolic function and filling pressure. The authors should be commended for their work, and their data are welcome by those faced with these patients in the echocardiography laboratory or clinical practice.
