Abstract

Eighty six bacterial isolates were recovered from seven protein rich soil-samples collected from Visakhapatnam. On the basis of colony size, texture and microscopic characteristics, the isolates were categorized into 30 types. Among these, 9 isolates showed good proteolytic activity, 7 isolates showed moderate, 8 isolates showed very poor and 6 isolates exhibited negligible activity. The isolate VD-I-11, identified as Bacillus produced higher amount of alkaline protease than the standard strain.
