Abstract

This article reviews the evidence regarding intraoperative techniques used by surgeons to prevent postoperative complications. The specific prophylactic measures examined include proximal diversion and use of drains after colorectal anastomoses, omentoplasty, adhesion prevention, and optimal wound closure.
