Abstract

In this work, we demonstrate the integrated functionalities of continuous flows and discrete droplets in a single digital microfluidic platform. The use of droplets has its unique advantages in bio-applications. However, using only droplets is not always the optimal solution. The combined functionalities of flows and droplets adds versatility to the platform and potentially leads to improved on-chip protocols. Here we demonstrate a simple droplet dispensing approach using continuous flow as a fluid source in a digital microfluidic device with desirable long-term volume reproducibility (CV<3%) and reduced need for human intervention.
