Abstract

Understanding the anatomic and physiologic substrates of consciousness has been a challenge enthralling researchers for centuries. Yet, only recently have we begun to make progress, thanks in great part to technologic advances. Current MRI techniques offer us the possibility of examining brain lesions with great precision and sensitivity. By exploiting these new possibilities, we are starting to learn what makes us and keeps us conscious.
