Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a disease increasingly identified during routine endoscopic procedures. The disease is potentially malignant regardless of its size. Its recognition should prompt surgical resection. Chemotherapy with Imatinib mesilate should be indicated for patients with unresectable GIST or after surgery if there is evidence of residual disease.
