Abstract

This paper describes the modification of the Lieb erichrome technique for staining myelin sheaths' embedded in glycol methacrylate plastic. The technique permits excellent morphologic detail of myelinated and demyelinated axons in the central nervous system and the characterization of pathologic abnormalities in the spinal cord of mice persistently infected with a demyelinating strain of Theiler's virus. It is a simple, rapid technique that allows 25–30 spinal cord cross-sections to be embedded, sectioned and stained at one time. (The J Histotechnol 12:35, 1989).
