Electron-mediated 17O−63cu spin-spin coupling and electron spin correlations in YBa2Cu3O7

Abstract

We report spin-echo double resonance NMR measurements of 17O−63Cu indirect (electron-mediated) nuclear spin-spin coupling between Cu and O atoms in the CuO2 planes of YBa2Cu3O7. The magnitude of the measured coupling is anomalously large, to the extent that it is inconsistent with the antiferromagnetic correlations that are invoked to explain the contrasting T1 behaviors of 63Cu and 17O.
