Abstract

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) are the preferred procedures for removing superficial neoplastic lesions in the GI tract. ESD can remove larger lesions en bloc providing a higher curative rate, decreased tumor recurrence, and improved histopathological analysis. But requires intensive training and is associated with long procedure times and higher complications. Compared to Eastern studies, Western studies show comparable ESD.
