Abstract

To assess trends in the epidemiology of CHF in the community, we compared the 1981 incidence of disease and patients' survival in Rochester, Minnesota, to that observed in 1991. In all, 248 patients with newly diagnosed CHF according to the Framingham criteria were identified; 107 patients in 1981 and 141 patients in 1991. Patient survival was similar in both cohorts. The total incidence rate of CHF, adjusted for age and sex to the United States population, was not significantly different between the groups.
