Abstract

Progressive transmission of 3D images with an added capability for accelerated rendering of a selected subfeature is presented. The overall progressive imaging scheme here uses the Fourier transform ℑ of an image A: decreasing ordering of element magnitudes in ℑ (A) space, partial selection and then application of ℑ-1 provides an effective progressive imaging algorithm. The same Fourier-based technique is employed for accelerated filling out of a selected emerging subfeature. Effectiveness of the combination is illustrated and discussed, with a 50×256×256 magnetic resonance head data set.
